Charissalauren.com is a place where business meets style. Covering travel, events, style, & work, the blog focuses on the local scene and offers a glimpse into the world of one of Pittsburgh’s entrepreneurs and trendsetters. A local spotlight series coming this fall will interview select artists, designers, & entrepreneurs that inspire + develop Pittsburgh’s local scene.
How it all started:
Becoming the “go-to girl” in Pittsburgh’s fashion, entertainment and events scene, Charissa combined her natural talent in coordinating and writing and founded her first PR company in 2012, at age 22. Using her first-hand experiences to position creative professionals publicly, the company has worked with several leading events and has secured clients internationally. “I do believe that Pittsburgh is home to so many emerging artists and brands and that the talent is here but there absolutely needed to be a source of firmer direction. I think that many people based here aren’t sure of the next steps to take to grow their brand and that’s where PR comes in,” Charissa said during an interview with PR Couture. Named a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Stiletto Women in Business and honored by as Pittsburgh Magazine’s Women in Business Spotlight of 2014, Public Relations was proven to be a success for the young entrepreneur.
An on-stage background started it all. Growing up in theater, pageants, and modeling, she quickly caught on to the fast-paced industries of fashion and entertainment and fell for the rush. Charissa was introduced the business while working with companies Victor’s International Modeling Agency, Barbizon, The Talent Group, Miss Pennsylvania USA and Nancy Mosser Casting. While working on the set of blockbuster films Adventure Land, She’s out of my League, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Zac & Miri, and Jack Reacher, Charissa quickly fell into production.
Knowing her calling to work in media early on, she began to acquire the necessary expertise to grow her name in PR and media and was nominated on the Fashion Board at The Mall at Robinson at age 16. Shortly after, she landed an internship with The Talent Group and went on to become an instructor and junior agent with Barbizon Model and Talent. After familiarizing herself with the business from a casting and scouting perspective, she began to coordinate shows for Pittsburgh Fashion Week where she became acquainted with the local fashion, music and entertainment scene. Coordinating Pittsburgh Fashion Week’s stand-in-room only opening shows for three years, she considers the experience as one that really put Pittsburgh artists on the map.
Extending her resume, Charissa began to pursue her passion for writing. Landing a freelance Senior Market Editor position with local magazine Front Row Monthly, she has since been published with DisFunkshion Magazine in bookstores nationwide, Mod City Magazine, Miss A Magazine, Maniac Magazine, Modern Latina, Hello Perfect, Girl Talk HQ, Girl Zone and Women in PR. (See Published Page). While writing she’s covered dozens of events, including New York Fashion Week, and interviewed now hundreds of inspiring business owners, designers, celebrities, artists and more. Within her portfolio she was privileged to meet and interview names such as Lauren Conrad, Mario Lopez, Arden Cho, Whitney Port, Willow Shields, Tom Cruise, Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Stewart, Alexa Vega, Austin Butler, Betty White, Jes, Seth Rogan, Joe Maganiello, Ashley Rickards, Emma Watson, and The 1975. For her, the most enjoyable part of writing is being able to share a story in hopes of sending a message. She has also coordinated editorial shoots for designers in L.A. and New York City and hopes to envision many more in her future.
